Can I turn on two-factor authentication?

Yes — an authenticator app, emailed one-time codes, or both, with backup codes for when you lose your device.

Two-factor authentication is opt-in and available on both landlord and tenant accounts, from your profile page. You can enable either method independently, or both:

  • Authenticator app — scan a QR code with Google Authenticator, 1Password, Authy or similar.
  • Email codes — a one-time code sent to your account email at login.
  • Backup codes — a set of single-use codes to get in if you lose access to both. Store them somewhere other than the device you authenticate with.

You're emailed whenever two-factor authentication is enabled or disabled on your account, so a change you didn't make doesn't go unnoticed.

Not legal advice

These answers describe how Tenarize works and summarise the law in England as the product implements it. They are not legal advice about your situation, and the law changes. For free independent help, Citizens Advice and Shelter both cover renting in England; for anything unusual or contested, take advice from a solicitor.

Tenarize does not currently support Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, whose tenancy regimes are different.
