How do I handle a building containing several flats?
Create the building as a container property and add each flat under it: the container holds building-wide documents, each flat is a full property.
Mark the building itself as a container property and attach each independently-let unit to it as a child. The two behave differently on purpose:
- The container holds nothing but building-wide paperwork — a communal fire risk assessment, a block insurance policy. It never carries a tenancy of its own.
- Each child unit is a complete property in its own right: its own address details, its own licensing, its own documents, its own tenancies and compliance checklists.
Worth knowing: You have to delete or detach the child units before the container itself can be deleted. That rule is enforced by the app rather than the database, so it won't stop you halfway.
