How do I invite a tenant to their portal?
Once compliance is complete, use Invite on the tenancy — Tenarize emails the tenant a one-time code and link, and they set their own password.
Invites go out once a tenancy reaches Awaiting tenant, because before that there's nothing for the tenant to look at. Pressing Invite generates a one-time code and emails the tenant a link that takes them straight to the sign-up page with the code applied.
- The tenant sets their own password. You never see it, and you never set one on their behalf.
- Invite codes expire after 14 days. An expired one gives a clear 'ask your landlord for a new one' message rather than looking broken — reissue it and a fresh email goes out.
- If the tenant already has a portal account — a renewal, say — no new invite is needed.
A tenant doesn't strictly need a portal account for the tenancy to run, but they do need one to e-sign, to pay rent through Tenarize, or to report maintenance in the app.
